Remediation of the large sinkhole was completed in the Fall of 2022. All involved parties are confident that this will solve the recurring sinkhole problems that have been plaguing our parking lot.
The total cost of the project was $407, 867!
Collections under our Rooted in Faith: Parking Lot campaign equaled $232,582.

Timeline
June 2022: Rooted in Faith: Parking Lot campaign kicked off, and with your help we quickly surpassed $100,000 raised!!
July 2022: A large portion of the parking lot was fenced off and heavy machinery arrived to begin digging. The initial excavation reached about 6 feet, just to the surface of the underground liner. This liner serves to hold and direct rainwater for the entire parking lot.
The liner was found to be damaged, resulting in multiple sinkholes. Excavation continued until the full area of concern in the liner could be exposed for repairs. A geo-survey was conducted to give a fuller picture of the status of the area of concern.
At about 14 feet down, we struck limestone.Limestone absorbs water, but when that water is acidic, the limestone begins to break down. The breakdown of sub-surface limestone leaves behind gaps. Those gaps result in (you guessed it!) sinkholes.The team excavated and removed all the pesky limestone and replace it with permanent fill material.
By the end of July we raised more than $137,000 for the Rooted in Faith: Parking Lot campaign.
August 2022: The fill material was poured, and the liner was installed. Excavated soil was replaced and compacted.
Fall 2022: The parking lot repairs have been finalized and all involved parties are confident that this will solve the recurring sinkhole problems that have been plaguing our parking lot. Hooray!
Final costs were within the original estimates that Fr. Leva mentioned in his letter back in April. Fundraising continues as we look to pay off our final bills, which totaled $407,867.
January 2023: Thanks to your continuing support, the Rooted in Faith: Parking Lot had raised $204,815. -
